A sourcing manager is a manager-level job. It tends to be more communications- and education-focused than some of the more technical careers mentioned throughout this book. That being said, sourcing managers are critical to success in the XR field. They are responsible for hiring and training engineers. Companies like Facebook are hiring VR/AR-specific sourcing managers to create new hardware and software products. The goal is to make the products social and immersive.

This position usually requires ten or more years of recruiting experience and at least four years of managing teams of six or more employees. Sourcing managers need to be excellent communicators and multitaskers. Another important part of this job is to partner with hiring managers in an effort to develop a detailed profile of candidates. Sourcing managers also need to be able to use data to identify trends in the field. This allows them to develop creative recruitment strategies and provide decision-makers with insights.
